Stances on Abortion and Hate Crimes

Why not start off with 2 of the most controversial and biggest issues out there today.

ABORTION

-I believe in a womans right to chose. In no way should government tell a person what they can and can not do with their own body. If you let the government control your body when it comes to abortion next you will let them control what types of medical treatment you can seek, or chose to or not seek any medical treatment at all. I understand peoples opposition of abortion, and in many ways they bring up very valid points fighting against abortion. I will lay out my steps to help prevent abortions from occuring in this state, but promise to never work to try to end a persons legal right to seek one, and have all who try to unlawfully stop a person from obtaining one prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

1.) Teach in schools contraception methods and ways to keep yourself safe and respectful. Though everyone knows abstinence is the only real way to guarantee no pregnancies, we all know that it is not always going to happen. So instead of being ignorant to the truth and refusing to teach them about safe sex. Many studies have proven abstinence-only teaching in school actually raises the risk of both teenage pregnancy and STD's. Why let children suffer the consequences over bickering over religious beliefs, beliefs those children may not even hold.

2.) Offer adult classes on child birth and child birth options including holding seminars on the adoption process at all of the CCRI and URI campuses. Also having all cities and towns along with the main state website post links to all locally based and operating adoption websites so it is also easy access for scared and possibly unwilling parents, and also a great resource for people wanting to raise children who can not so they can gather up all the information much easier.

3.) Go after all groups who try to use hate and fear to force people from being able to follow their constitutional right to have an abortion done. Those groups use very disturbing images in public places for all to see to try and scare others away because of their extremist views. We would never allow people to put vulgar and disturbing pictures of any other sort up in a sign of protest without having hassle from police and there is no reason that they should be granted such special rights. I would ask that the state Attorney General and all local prosecutors to try people who practice in these ways to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for any crimes that they commit.

HATE CRIMES

There is no reason for added pentalies be given for "hate crimes." This is just a way for prosecutors and lawmakers to appease special interest groups. Almost all violent crimes are based on HATRED, but why should only certain crimes and circumstances get the added charge? If a white man goes out and kills 3 black men its a triple homicide with a hate crime charge too. But if a black man goes out and kills 3 white men its only a triple homicide. If we are to continue hate crime legislation and prosecution then we need to make it all encompassing and not just selective on what groups get in and what ones do not.

I am officially announcing my candidacy for governor of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations for the 2010 election. I will be running as an independent as no party truly lies where I stand. Though it will be a hard road it is one that is necessary to help save our state as it flounders in trouble and obscurity. All issues will be addressed very soon. Thanks for viewing and hope to hear and meet you all soon.
